Namakula is a NYC based actor/writer/producer born to a quirky Ugandan father and a feisty Jamaican mother. Her bi-cultural upbringing fueled her interest in foreign languages, travel and comic books. She's explored 4 continents (so far), and spent significant time and worked in the UK and Spain. Specifically, Barcelona, which for many years was her second home.
Her performance work runs the gamut from theatre, short films, TV, webseries, commercials, voice over projects and stand up comedy. In addition to booking on-camera projects abroad, via Barcelona based acting/modeling agency, Teresa Gimpera. Her offbeat humor has landed her comedic roles on The Daily Show, Conan O’Brien, a wacky Dunkin’ spot and a “Broad City” promo (with Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson). She’s worked with many groundbreaking directors like: Charles Stone III, David Shane, and legendary talents Matthew Rolston and Joe Pytka. Notably, she was the VOICE of REI's "Force of Nature" campaign, WINNER of the Cannes Bronze Glass Lion (2018). And recently she was cast as Understudy (2 roles) in the 2019 Pulitzer Prize (Drama) winning play, "Fairview" (original cast).
As a writer, she's been penning and performing (mainly comedy) for years. Her spec sitcom scripts were shopped by Brillstein Grey, whilst she was honing her skills on the NYC stand up comedy circuit. And her irreverent comedy reel garnered her a pitch meeting with the producers of MAD TV. She later wrote, directed, co-starred and edited the original dark comedy webseries, "Kate & Kula".
As a producer, in addition to creating her own work, Namakula's contributed to other artists' endeavors. Including producing the multi-award winning fashion film, Proclamation Punctuation, episodes 1 & 2 of the international webseries THE GROOM, and most recently, was a field researcher on RadicalMedia's human interest doc project, "American Portrait" launched in Jan 2020.
When she's not in the thick of the biz, Namakula enjoys lucid dreaming amongst the trees, exploring new lands and playing the bass.
